5/17/1999    Mosquito     137     132

Hard time getting away from Boulder. !hr 40 mins after take off I got into a wave. Then flew to Mt Evans followed by Estes Park at 15,000 to 18,000. Left Estes of final glide to Loveland the Boulder. Course time was 1hr 40mins for 84 mph.

5/19/1999    Mosquito     190     184

Take off at 11am, conditions looked good but OD right off. Hard to find consistent lift. Finally got to 16,000 ft and headed North. Had declared Laramie but OD up there. Then started for Walden, turned Glendevey and headed nearer to home. 4hr 15 mins.

Mark Terry (456)

6/20/1999    Ventus B     188     169

Declared (Diamond goal):
Gross Reservoir
Laramie
Gross Reservoir

Trip up to laramie was OK but I got there as a cell built over the airport,I was 14,000 over laramie town, 12,000 as I came in to take the photo and below 11,000 as I came back east to get lift.

There were good clouds to cheyenne so I head east, but south against the mountains it was all falling apart.
I got to 16,500 and gliding to longmont at 7000, hung around getting very hot near the airport to the east (away from jumpers) then got a thermal to 9000' - then I made the tactical mistake - I was hot-tired and wanted a pee, so I shot off to the flatirons (which were dark) to see if I could get a another couple of 1000' to get my final turnpoint at gross res. There was no lift and had to land at boulder, if I had waited at longmont I think I could have climbed (as it cycled) to 11,000 and then shot in to take pic - bother.

9/6/1999    Ventus B     189     170

Declared Boulder stadium, Haligan res, Riverside res, Boulder

Did bsd-hal- fort-Collins loveland boulder = 208.76 k

It was West-wind might have been about 30 knots at 14,000 so heading west was difficult. On the second leg towards Greeley I though I had better check if I could make home against the head-wind - it would have been possible if it was possible to climb readily to 14,000 - however I could only manage a knot or two, so rather than land out at Greeley I went home.
I left the cel-phone in the car too.e

9/19/1999Ventus B 126 113

I was trying gold-hill idasprgs buford gold-hill

Did gold-ida-downtownFC- boulder (202 k)

if I had tried in the reverse order it would have worked but by the time I got up to Poudre Canyon there was a virga wall in the way. I tried going round but it was a steady 600' down - I think it was doable but I wasn't prepared for a landout

Colin Barry (399)

9/9/1999    Discus B     167     157

Declared Salida, Hagerman Pass, Crestone Peak, Salida.

Was unable to fly the 'Collegiate Peaks' due to strong wind, so went up behind Buena Vista for the first turnpoint and then had to regain height over Leadville.

Unable to turn Crestone Peak due to lack of height.

Unable to turn Crestone Peak due to lack of height.

5/29/1999    Discus B     98     142

At Lake McConaughy. Declared 300k triangle, but was only able to complete Olgallala, Wallace, Holyoke due to strong wind from the South. Most of the flight spent lower than 3000ft AGL. Just got the glider in the trailer before the lightning bolts and rain started. This completed my Silver C - at last.

6/23/1999    Discus B     106     100

At Dalhart, TX. Declared Miller Field, Municipal, Dalhart, Clayton, Miller Field.

Climbed out in dust devil at Miller Field to 14,500 ft and proceeded under a classic cloud street that went to within 15 miles of Municipal. On the return I got lost as:
I was just enjoying the view.
There is only one road at Dalhart after all!
It was my first flight at Dalhart.
Who needs to look at that GPS anyway?
After re-locating myself, I flew torwards Clayton but the day was dying and I returned to Miller Field.

Bruce Hodgkins (324)

Flew Kosler, Halligan Dam, Eleven Mile Reservoir and back to Boulder.

Releasing at 11am took wave to clouds. Left clouds at 14,500 West of Livermoor going into a blue hole. Deciding not to go to Laramie I hit blue thermal at Halligan Res and got to 15,500. Then 'lawn darted' under classic clouds until I hit 8 knots at Devils Thumb where I got back to 15,500. From here I proceeded to the divide and then went to Eleven Mile Res. The day was now dying and was able to return to Boulder with the assistance of a 7knot tail wind.

Total flight time was 5:45.

9/18/1999    Ventus 2B     190     168

Pre-frontal day started early at 9:45 which normally means over-development. Launched at 11:00 climbed to 13,000 near Gross Reservoir and moved NW. Hooked up with FW (Ed Cook) in his beautiful new Discus and we headed North. The day was exceptionally strong North of Owl Canyon with a climb of 13.5 knots to 17,500. Worked an excellent street past Colorado/Wyoming Line up to Horse Creek. Considered going on to Chugwater but things were decaying rapidly to the South. Long glide back to Carter reservoir a short climb followed by a 90 knot glide to Boulder. Total distance: 189.56 miles. Total time on course: 2:30 Average Speed: 75.82 mph
