Soaring Society of Boulder and Mile High Gliding Reach Agreement on Towing
It has been a long time coming but the Soaring Society of Boulder (SSB) and Mile High Gliding (MHG) have arrived at an agreement regarding towing services. The agreement, which is reproduced in full below, states that MHG will provide as many tows as SSB members want during the week, and will attempt to provide as many tows as possible on weekends. MHG is not expected or required to provide all the tows that SSB members may require on weekends, and SSB is not expected or required to provide any guarantees, minimums, or exclusives to MHG. The agreement also addresses the issues of sharing runway access between MHG and SSB.
Mile High Gliding Towing Services for SSB Members1. General
1a. Mile High Gliding (MHG) will afford the members of the Soaring Society of Boulder (SSB) the same high level of customer service afforded to non-SSB members.
2. Towing Monday through Friday
2a. MHG would prefer SSB members to call and schedule their tows in advance whenever possible. This will allow SSB members to be assured of an exact time of departure. If SSB members intend to make multiple training tows, please indicate this when making a reservation. There will be no charge for canceling reservations, but SSB members will be expected to use normal courtesy and call to cancel as soon as they realize they will not need a previously arranged MHG tow.
2b. SSB members requesting unscheduled weekday tows will be assured of a launch, but will be sequenced in with non-SSB customers. Priority will be given to customers with a reserved tow time. When no reservation has been made, MHG will provide a tow as soon as possible (hopefully under ten minutes) after receiving a request from an SSB member.
3. Towing on Saturday and Sunday
3a. MHG will provide a tow as soon as possible after receiving a request from an SSB member with the understanding that not all SSB requests for tows may be accommodated on weekends.
3b. SSB members can reserve tow times for weekend flying with the understanding that it may not be possible to reserve the tow time sought. There will be no charge for canceling reservations, but SSB members will be expected to use normal courtesy and call to cancel as soon as they realize they will not need a previously arranged MHG tow.
4. Airport Ground Traffic
4a. MHG and SSB both agree to keep the runway clear of parked gliders unless a towplane is available and waiting to launch the glider immediately.
4b. In no case will MHG pull out in front of an SSB glider with a towplane in position to launch, the rope tight and engine running.
4c. If an SSB glider is ready to launch with rope tight and tug engine running, MHG gliders will be pulled off unless a MHG towplane is in position and ready to launch immediately.
4d. SSB members will be to be ready for launch before a MHG towplane arrives, to make the launch as efficient as possible.
5. How to Request a MHG Tow
5a. To request a MHG tow, SSB members should call (303) 527-1122. If no one answers, the best course of actions would be to walk down to the trailer and wait until a towpilot or other MHG employee returns. If you merely leave a message on the answering machine, and all MHG pilots are busy doing one ride or lesson after another, it could be hours before anyone knows you want a tow. MHG does not monitor 123.3, and it would not be a good idea to clutter up Unicom with tow requests.
