SSB INSTRUCTION POLICY - 2/19/04
1. Any CFIG recommended by the Safety Committee and approved by the SSB Board of Directors (BOD) to instruct in SSB aircraft may fly with any SSB member for the purposes of basic instruction, re-currency training, spring checkout, safety pilot or for any other instructional purpose.
2. Before instructing SSB members, approved instructors must review and become familiar with all SSB training and checkout materials and procedures, including the Aircraft Binders, Pre-Solo Quiz, Specific Aircraft Checkout Forms, General Checkout Forms, SSB Liability Policy and Aircraft Solo Policy. The SSB Chief Instructor is responsible for providing this familiarization.
3. Approved instructors must be checked out in each SSB aircraft type in which they intend to instruct. Checkouts shall be accomplished with the SSB Chief Instructor using a combination of check flight, interview, discussion and/or logbook checkout as deemed necessary by the Chief Instructor. Instructors with substantial recent experience in the same aircraft make/model in which they intend to instruct will ordinarily meet the requirements of this policy without the need for a check flight.
4. A CFIG instructor flying in a SSB Glider must be a member of the SSB.
5. No SSB Member may solo in any SSB aircraft until the member has reviewed the Aircraft Binder, completed and signed the SSB Pre-Solo Written Quiz and the relevant written Aircraft Quiz. These documents are available in the SSB flight shack. No instructor shall endorse solo flight by an SSB member until the member has complied with this policy.
6. No SSB Member may solo or return to flight status following an accident until first flying with, and receiving the logbook endorsements from, TWO instructors. At least one of these instructors must be the Chief Instructor or other SSB member-instructor designated by the BOD.
7. Primary instruction should be given in the SSB DG505 or Grob 103. Perferrably primary instruction should be in the Grob 103. All first solos should be one of the fore mention trainers which the student has been using for primary training.
8. In the event of damage to an SSB glider, approved instructors are exempt from paying any insurance related deductible while flying with an SSB member for the purposes of basic instruction, re-currency training, spring checkout, safety pilot or for any other instructional purpose.
