Schweizer 2-32 Sailplane
Information on the SSB 2-32 two place sailplane.
History
This glider probably has more hours under actual IFR conditions than any other in the US. Featured in the IMAX movies Storm Chasers it conducted research missions for NCAR for many years. The glider is now operated by the SSB and is capable of conducting sophisticated meteorological research missions.
Panel
The SSB's 2-32 carries one of the most sophisticated instrument packages of any glider in the world. It is configured to capture real time information about the unique wave conditions and rotors that occur around Boulder. It features multiple GPS systems with data loggers, moving map display, a custom built Unix based computer, 3 axis accelerometers, transponder and dual pressure breathing oxygen systems.

To secure the 2-32 oxygen system, turn the main oxygen tank valve off, and place the levers on each regulator (front and rear seat) to the "OFF", "100% OXYGEN", "NORMAL" positions, read from the right to the left. This sequence helps prevent contaminants from entering the valves. Before connecting the charger switch off all electronic instruments. Then set the switches as shown with the master switch in the down position and the A & B bus switches in the center position. The charger is placed inside the aircraft on the seat. After the canopy is secured, power is connected by passing the extension cable thru the side window. The stick is secured by inserting a cushion as illustrated. This places the controls in a position where moisture is drained away from the horizontal stabilizer.
Do not secure the stick by pulling it back using the seat belts. This causes the rudder lock to dig into horizontal stabilizer.
